Repertory › Remedies in the repertory
Alumen (Alumn.)
Alumen (Alumn.) appears in the repertory in 81 rubrics. Of these, 3 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 2 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis is on Fear, Sadness, Delusions, and the disturbances of voice and clarity of thinking.
Fear, doubt, and confusion
Fear is the most frequent main rubric, and beside it stand Anxiety, Doubt, and Confusion of mind. The person who appears here is insecure and repelled, for Loathing too fills several rubrics, and he has difficulty ordering his thoughts.
Delusions
The delusions are sparsely represented but peculiar. A single-remedy rubric records that unpleasant news triggers the delusion: "Delusions – news – excited by unpleasant news." Two small rubrics belong with it, one with the rushing of blood "like the roar of many waters" and one with the idea of falling off a chair. The delusion is thus kindled by a stimulus from outside and continues in the person's own body.
Sadness and voice
The sadness is tied to the time of day. Two single-remedy rubrics place it in the forenoon, from nine o'clock until noon. Beside these stand Laughing and rubrics on Voice and aphonia, which show that inner distress is also reflected in expression.
Summary
Alumen presents itself as a remedy of insecurity. Fear and doubt hinder clear thinking, bad news has a long aftereffect, and the sadness keeps to fixed hours of the forenoon. The small number of its own rubrics, however, allows only a cautious judgment.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
