Androctonos amoreuxii hebraeus (Androc.)
Androctonos amoreuxii hebraeus (Androc.) appears in the repertory in 432 rubrics. Of these, 19 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 20 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions, Anxiety, and Thoughts, followed by Colors, Indifference, and Excitement. The picture is that of a person who perceives the world as through a narrowing, is stuck in his thoughts, and alternates between apathy and irritable elation.
Narrowed Gaze, Shifted Reality
Delusions form the core. They deal with a reality that has shifted: everything around the person appears as a terrible secret, and the world is viewed through an opening, as the single-remedy rubric "Delusions – hole – looks through a hole at the whole world" records. The idea that everyone is insane and the conviction that people harbor an aversion to him or her fit this. Everyday things turn threatening; only this remedy knows the idea "Delusions – umbrella is a knife, an". Alongside these stand two rubrics pointing in the opposite direction: the feeling of being strong, and the delusion of being a youth again. One may read in them a defense against the threat through strength and through return to an untroubled time.
Anxiety and Fear
The anxiety is tied to times of day. The single-remedy rubrics name twilight, the hours before midnight, and expressly 10 p.m.; added are hysteria in the evening, anxiety with fear during climacteric, and anxiety about the world. The fear has a particular addressee, scorpions ("Fear, phobia – scorpions, of"). The accumulation of anxiety, fear, and restlessness among all the rubrics of this remedy confirms that the state is carried more by inner unrest than by outer occasions.
Thoughts That Will Not Let Go
Thinking is narrowed like the gaze. The single-remedy rubric "Thoughts – one thought excludes all others" describes a clinging to a single content. A small rubric shows the counterpart: the person knows the thoughts of other people. A recurrence of earlier drug experiences is recorded separately. Concentration is good in the morning, and the rubric on peace of mind on waking belongs to the same time window; the day thus begins clearer than it ends.
Indifference and Mood Swings
The indifference is directed at accustomed mental activity and at things that otherwise give pleasure. Opposite it stand surges: euphoria alternating with quarrelsomeness, excitement alternating with sleepiness, likewise in children. The mockery is biting and alternates with great intuition and great empathy for the weaknesses of others. In anger, destruction and death are threatened, and objects are thrown at persons who offend. The result is not a uniform temperament but a mood that turns from dullness to violence without any recognizable mediation.
Peculiarities
Two rubrics fall outside the frame: the desire to feel rocks and to creep behind them, and dreaming in color in yellow, red, and, only in this remedy, orange. The desire can be read as a search for cover, the dreams as an indication of an experience that remains vivid despite the indifference.
Summary
Androc. draws a person whose perception has narrowed and to whom the world appears as a secret and a threat. He holds on to one thought, takes refuge in apathy or in the memory of a carefree youth, and flares up suddenly in mockery and anger. The anxiety follows the evening and night hours; the morning brings clarity and calm.
