Asterias rubens (Aster.)

Asterias rubens (Aster.) appears in 178 rubrics in the Repertorium. Of these, 19 are single rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 11 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis is on Fear, Delusions, Anxiety, Ailments from events, Weeping and Anger. From them results the picture of a person whose fear, anxiety and anger are bound to the midday hours and who experiences himself as inwardly unclean.

The hours around noon

The time modalities are striking. Fear occurs at noon from 12 to 3 p.m., anxiety until 3 p.m., anger from 12 to 2 p.m., quarrelsomeness between 12 and 2 p.m. The accumulation forms a rhythm of its own.

Fear and body image

Fear concerns apoplexy, at night with the feeling that the head would burst, cancer of the breasts and misfortune, with weeping in hysteria ameliorating. The Delusions concern the body: it would smell bad, the person is inwardly dirty and smells bad. In addition come expectation of bad news, control by strangers and answering to voices and phantoms.

Sexuality and children

Several rubrics concern sexuality: weeping during sexual excitement, aversion to sex and kisses, despair from violent sexual desire, excitement in nymphomania. A single rubric records aversion to having children because the world is so bad, with guilt feelings. Another names frequent car accidents.

Summary

Aster. shows a picture of midday fear and rage, a feeling of being contaminated in the body, and a tension around sexuality and guilt. The single rubrics give the picture clear contours.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
