Aurum iodatum (Aur‑i.)

Aurum iodatum (Aur‑i.) appears in 56 rubrics in the Repertorium. Of these, 1 is a single rubric in which only this remedy is listed, and 2 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis is on Fear, Anxiety, Insanity, Dementia and Despair, and also on a strikingly unfounded cheerfulness.

Dark side: fear, despair, decline

The core is formed by Fear and Anxiety, followed by Despair and by rubrics that describe mental decline: Dementia and Insanity. In addition come oversensitiveness, exhaustion from mental exertion and a desire to bite. The only single rubric links madness with physical suffering: "Insanity, madness – heart, with enlargement of".

Sudden cheerfulness

The counterpole stands in two small rubrics: cheerfulness that comes "in fits", and one "without cause". Both rubrics describe a cheerfulness without occasion that stands abruptly opposite the gloom of the other rubrics.

Summary

Aurum iodatum stands for a person between depression and sudden brightening: fear, despair and mental decline determine the picture, and cheerfulness breaks through in it without reason. With only 56 rubrics the picture remains incomplete.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
