Bacillinum Burnett (Bac.)
Bacillinum Burnett (Bac.) appears in 168 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 9 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 8 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Children, Delusions, and the desire for change; in total numbers the Children rubrics dominate with 32 entries ahead of Fear and Anxiety. The data are therefore modest in scope. They draw a remedy that has much to do with children, with night, and with restlessness.
Children and Night
The child stands at the center. The rubrics list delusions in children at night and an inexplicable nocturnal anxiety. Children scream during headache and can become malicious; as cause one rubric names milk. A single-remedy rubric describes a brusque, curt manner in children. Added is fear of diphtheria.
Restlessness and Change
The body does not come to rest. Rhythmic movements and the morbid impulse to move stand as single-remedy rubrics. During headache the person pulls and tears at her/his hair and injures herself/himself in doing so. In keeping with this is the persistent desire for change, up to the wish to change the doctor or therapist.
Delirium and Delusion
At night the delirium alternates with attacks of clear consciousness, and there is the delusion that the arms are cut off.
Summary
The remedy appears as the picture of a restless being plagued at night, above all in childhood. It is restless, wants change, and injures itself in distress, while fear and delusion increase in the dark.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
