Bambusa arundinacea (Bamb‑a.)
Bambusa arundinacea (Bamb‑a.) appears in 318 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 47 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 20 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions with 27 rubrics and Fear with 24 rubrics, plus Irritability, Indifference, Weeping, Memory, and Sadness. Together they give the picture of an overwhelmed, exhausted person who withdraws from duties and caregiving, experiences life as cut off, and wavers between indifference and sadness.
Overwhelm and Withdrawal
Several single-remedy rubrics draw a worn-out housewife: mental exhaustion in women and housewives, aversion to caring for others, and aversion to nursing. A small rubric records that the person no longer copes with things, overwhelmed by stress, likewise in housewives. Indifference occurs during exertion and mental exertion; the person says: "Aversion – too much, everything is".
Separation from Life
The Delusions stress separation. Single-remedy rubrics describe the delusion of being cut off from life, of having come into the world tired, that something presses on the soul, and that the symptoms come from outside the person. Despair is controlled by fate, and there is a desire for support and affection. Weeping from the feeling of being forsaken at night is listed.
The Body in Images
The body delusions are unusually pictorial: a rising hot-air balloon as head, a back wrapped in swaths of mist, a loosened back, stiff arms, unequal left and right sides, very thin skin. In keeping with this is mental confusion in writing when the person writes left-handed although right-handed.
Irritability and Time
Irritability occurs at 6 p.m., before menses, and on being reproached. Sadness and anxiety about the future come at 4 p.m. Slowness prevails in the morning on waking. Quarrelsomeness, aversion to company with quarrelsomeness, and quarreling over trifles are listed. Fastidiousness is also recorded: wanting to do everything perfectly.
Fears
Fear is directed at convulsions, lumps in the breast, brain tumor, and disorder in the head. Anxiety of conscience arises when the person believes herself/himself to blame for the partner's bad mood. Worries about money and desires for change in life are added. Barking in the car when the person is alone forms a peculiar marginal feature.
Summary
Bamb‑a. appears as the picture of an overwhelmed, split-off person who withdraws from caregiving, wishes for affection, feels separated from life, and lives in pictorial body delusions, alternating indifference, and sadness. With 67 specific rubrics the data are broad.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
