Barium iodatum (Bar-i.)
Barium iodatum (Bar-i.) appears in 100 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, none are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and none are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. Fear is with twenty-four main rubrics by far the largest group, followed by Delusions with seven and Voice with four.
Fear
Fear is listed under very many themes, among them fear of doctors, of catastrophes, of suicide, of trifles, of accidents, of water, of narrow places, of high places, and of falling. Fear of being touched and of the approach of other people is likewise represented.
Delusions and Withdrawal
The Delusions concern forgetfulness, being alone, a superiority of others, and the idea of being sick. Irritability occurs when the person is looked at, and blushing is listed. Brooding and ruminating take place in a corner of the room.
Voice and Children
The voice is nasal and is named in several rubrics. Among the Children rubrics are dwarfishness and cowardice. Dementia and Destructiveness appear as individual rubrics in the wording of the list.
Summary
Barium iodatum is characterized in the rubrics almost exclusively by fear in manifold forms, supplemented by delusions about being alone and withdrawal. Since there is no single-remedy rubric and no small rubric, the picture rests on the accumulation of main rubrics which the remedy shares with many others.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
