Benzoicum acidum (Benz-ac.)

Benzoicum acidum (Benz-ac.) appears in 92 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, four are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and sixteen are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The Children rubrics are with fifteen main rubrics the strongest group, followed by Mistakes, Delusions, Anxiety, and Coma.

Children and Being Carried

The Children rubrics concern above all being carried. Several small rubrics describe that the child does not want to be laid down after nursing, that it is morose when carried, and that it wants to be carried in melancholy. The single-remedy rubric on the child that does not want to be laid down is the starting point of this group.

Coma and Pulse

Coma is represented with five main rubrics. Two single-remedy rubrics link coma with a weak or slow pulse and with perspiration. A small rubric also names coldness of the skin.

Mental Exertion and Hurry

Mental activity and desire for work are linked with anxiety when the mind ceases to be active after sustained work. Hurry and haste appear in several small rubrics.

Summary

Benzoicum acidum is characterized in the rubrics above all by being carried in children, by coma, and by hurry and mental overexertion. The sixteen small rubrics show a broad but only partly independent body of data.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
