Bovista lycoperdon (Bov.)

Bovista lycoperdon (Bov.) appears in the repertory in 370 rubrics. Of these, 15 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 15 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis of the specific rubrics lies on Laughing, Aversion, Unconsciousness and Confusion of mind. From the total, Anxiety, Delusions, Mistakes and Fear stand out. The picture is that of an absent-minded, insecure person who blossoms in company and whose mind is closely coupled to bodily states.

Absent-mindedness and confusion

The core lies in the blurring of consciousness. Mistakes, listed in 17 rubrics, and Dullness accompany the confusion. At night the person does not know where he is, in dreams as well as when awake; in the morning unconsciousness can occur before and after headaches. Breakfast improves the confusion. The carefulness is meant seriously and yet fails: "Cares, full of – carefulness, care – but nevertheless they drop things".

Laughing, asthma and urticaria

The most striking group links mind and body. Laughing appears in single-remedy rubrics together with asthma, spasmodic and excessive, and the asthma is brought on by laughing. In the same sense stands spasmodic weeping with asthma. A second series ties aversion, oversensitiveness, absent-mindedness and quarrelsomeness to urticaria. Here the mind does not seem to come first but to follow the bodily attack, and a stool also improves the mental symptoms.

Company

Company relieves. It improves sadness and indifference, in company the person is cheerful and talkative to the point of frankness, social events improve. Against this stand ill humor after eating and in the open air and an aversion to work that turns into anger.

Anxiety and children

Anxiety, the largest group with 22 rubrics, has a small peculiarity: it increases by candlelight. In children, stammering of mentally retarded children is listed.

Summary

In the repertory, Bovista shows a person whose attention easily dissolves, who makes mistakes although he wants to be careful, and who finds support in the company of others. The connection of laughing, weeping and urticaria with bodily attacks suggests that here soul and skin or respiration are closely linked.
