Capsicum annuum (Caps.) appears in 469 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 30 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 16 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The main emphasis is on Homesickness, Anger, Fear, the rubrics for Children and Irritability. The picture is of a person who clings to the familiar and customary, may suffer from homesickness to the point of suicidal thoughts, is quickly irritable, and reacts sensitively especially to cold, chill and drafts.

Homesickness

Homesickness is the defining theme and occurs in many combinations. It appears with red cheeks, with heat in the throat and fauces, and with sleeplessness. It leads to boredom, to slowness and, as a single-remedy rubric, to inclination to suicide from homesickness; also listed is being pursued by thoughts of suicide. In children homesickness produces ailments, again with red cheeks. Part of the picture are aversion to unforeseen, unexpected things and unwillingness to deviate from the accustomed routine.

Anger and irritability

Anger alternates with contentment, with jesting and joking; it appears during chill. The irritability takes unusual forms: trifles irritate although the person is humorous, it appears before illness and is ameliorated on waking. Vexation arises when freezing. The person is dissatisfied with inanimate objects and groans about objects. The morose mood is ameliorated in sleep.

Cold, air and shuddering

The fear is directed at air: of drafts and of fresh air. In shuddering the person becomes stupefied and sensitive, and mental symptoms are listed. During chill he cannot form a thought, in fever he whistles or feels a desire to spit, and excitement can bring on fever and heat. After waking there is fear.

Children

In children obstinacy appears in a special form: chilly, refractory and clumsy, with obesity also stubborn. The children are chilly and react to homesickness with ailments.

Breathing, drinking and other features

A group concerning breathing is striking: the person must breathe deeply, with anxiety, and believes his complaints would be ameliorated by one single, very deep breath. Alcoholism shows itself in having to get up at night to drink. Also listed are ailments from amorous caresses, sadness after suppressed hemorrhoids, and a memory pursued by past events that he wants to recall.

Summary

The picture of Capsicum annuum is determined by homesickness in all gradations, to which belong attachment to the customary, sensitivity to cold and quick irritability. The single-remedy rubrics for suicide from homesickness, for the deep breath and for routine set it apart from other remedies. A King-Pin symptom is not indicated in the data at hand.
