Castoreum canadense (Castm.)

Castoreum canadense (Castm.) appears in 116 rubrics in the repertory. Of these, 3 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 6 are small rubrics with no more than two other remedies. The emphasis lies on irritability, anxiety, weeping, anger, and restlessness. The result is the picture of an irritable, anxious state that intensifies during sleep and toward evening. The number of specific rubrics is small.

Irritability and anger

Irritability occurs most frequently, followed by anxiety, weeping, and anger; morose mood and sadness are also recorded many times. The small rubrics confirm this in fine detail: dissatisfaction during the menses, moodiness during the day, fear of misfortune in the afternoon, weeping that is better in the evening.

Sleep

Two of the three single-remedy rubrics move the anger into the night. In sleep the person talks angrily, with "Talking – sleep, in – angry exclamations, with". Fitting this is starting from sleep after midnight. The third single-remedy rubric describes a mind full of anxious wishes: "Desires, wishes – full of desires – anxious wishes, full of".

Summary

Where other remedies sustain one mood, this one shows a restless agitation that discharges in sleep and by day runs out in irritability and tears.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
