Corticotropinum, Adrenocorticotropinum (ACTH) (Cortico.)

Corticotropinum, Adrenocorticotropinum (ACTH) (Cortico.) appears in 124 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 10 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 5 are small rubrics with no more than two other remedies. The main emphasis lies on Thoughts, Company, Mistakes in acting, and Unconsciousness. The picture emerges of a person whose thinking is inhibited in its momentum and who withdraws from company.

Thoughts That Vanish

The most striking trait lies in thinking. Three single-remedy rubrics describe that thoughts vanish, and name as occasions rising quickly and bending the head forward, among them "Thoughts – vanishing of thoughts – stooping". A fourth links bending the head with unconsciousness. A change of body position is evidently enough to tear the thread. Alongside stand frequent mistakes in acting, weak memory, and disorientation in everything.

Awake at Night, Sluggish by Day

Mental activity begins at night, from four o'clock, and the desire for mental exertion continues after four o'clock. In the morning, by contrast, heaviness and aversion to company appear. The person makes many plans, as the rubric records: "Plans – makes many plans – but does not carry them out".

Company and Age

Company is burdensome. There are aversion to people of the same age, irritability when alone, and the delusion that people do not hear her. The fear concerns her own age. Timidity and hurry complete the picture.

Summary

Unsteady thinking, activity at the wrong time, and a disturbed relationship to peers and to one's own aging make up a pattern in which intention and execution fall apart.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
