Curare (Cur.)
Curare (Cur.) appears in 174 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 14 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 9 are small rubrics with no more than two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions, Fear, Recognition, Company and Indecision. The picture is that of a person who perceives everything and yet remains unable to act.
Perceiving without Acting
The central motif lies in the small rubrics on Recognition: the person recognizes everything but cannot move, also in catalepsy; she recognizes reality and accepts it; consciousness is accompanied by paralysis. Fitting this is the single-remedy rubric "Acting – does not want to think for himself anymore and, in nervous weakness" and the indifference of no longer wishing to act for oneself. Indecision in nervous weakness stands beside it in two turns of phrase.
Withdrawal and Fear
Aversion to company is pronounced in its own right: two single-remedy rubrics describe the person who avoids the sight of others and shuts himself in. The fear is of falling, forward and on rising. Delusions concern dirt, putrefaction and being awakened.
Summary
The remedy shows a paralysis of the will with preserved consciousness, combined with withdrawal, fear of falling and the wish no longer to decide for oneself. The data support only a rough picture.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
