Fluoricum acidum (Fl‑ac.)

Fluoricum acidum (Fl‑ac.) appears in 437 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 34 are single rubrics in which only this remedy appears, and 22 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphases lie in Delusions, in Aversion, Relationship and Hatred, in Forgetfulness, in Sexuality and Lasciviousness, and in Fearlessness. From them emerges the picture of a person who loosens bonds, turns away from those closest, and is never satisfied in the change of relationships.

Loosening of bonds

The core lies in dissolution. The single rubrics record aversion to parents, to family members with whom the person nevertheless speaks kindly when others are present, and indifference toward loved ones with lively attention to strangers. Relationships are ended abruptly or several are conducted at once, and others are used, as stated in the rubric "Using – others". Sympathy and satisfaction are lacking. The person is never satisfied, not even after eating or in the open air.

Delusions of separation

The delusions carry this attitude into action. The person believes she must dissolve the marriage, break off the wedding or the engagement, separate from the servants, and drive the children out of the house. Alongside stand images of boundlessness: she could go on and on, hot smoke comes out of all body openings, and she is in an earthquake. One rubric records a danger that is not felt: "Delusions – danger – impression/sensation of – fear, but without". Fearlessness itself belongs here, showing in danger and during menses.

Hatred, irritability and gestures

Hatred and irritability are nonspecific and without direction. The hatred can be unreasonable, and it ameliorates when the person sees the absent hated ones. The irritability makes her send the nurse home. A manner that expresses itself through unambiguous, decided gestures fits this. Curiously, the person seeks out physicians and therapists as friends.

Sexuality

Sexuality appears as a driving force. Recorded are lascivious looks at women in the street, watching them, being absorbed in thoughts of fulfilling the desire, and the need to constantly prove one's own masculinity. The aversion to women is directed, according to a single rubric, against the masculine, mannish ones. Fantasies are repulsive when the person is alone, and anxious.

Memory and absent-mindedness

Memory is good in the morning, and forgetfulness ameliorates in the morning. Striking is that the person forgets to wind the clock. The mind is periodically absent in brief attacks. In children the inability to take on obligations stands out, and tiredness after school.

Summary

Fluoricum acidum shows in the Repertory a person who detaches from what binds him. Marriage, family and household become something that must be dissolved, and attention and drive turn to the new and the strange. Fearlessness and dissatisfaction belong to it: nothing holds, and nothing suffices.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
