Kola (Kola)
Kola (Kola) appears in 373 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 25 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 19 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions, Company, Restlessness, Despair and Mistakes making. The picture is that of a person who moves between invincibility and dissolution, avoids company and finds no inner rest.
Delusions of power and dissolution
With 36 rubrics the Delusions are in the foreground, and they fall into two halves. One concerns strength: the person is invincible and irresistible ("Delusions – invincible, he/she is", "Delusions – irresistible, he/she is"), believes he can read thoughts ("Delusions – thoughts – read, could"), and ascribes a special meaning to names. The other concerns the body, which falls apart or no longer fits: no arms, fingers grown together, feet grown and elongated, feet separated from the trunk, and a hole in the stomach that cannot be filled ("Delusions – stomach – hole in stomach that cannot be filled"). The surroundings also begin to move: the armchair jumps away like a hare, the bed trembles, people seem transparent, and spiders are seen. The elation of being enthusiastic about oneself is in a single-remedy rubric. One can read this as the expression of a consciousness that is at once overrated and slipping away.
Withdrawal
The person avoids company. Five rubrics alone describe the same attitude in different turns: he lies with closed eyes and avoids the sight of people ("Company – aversion to – lies with closed eyes"). Correspondingly, sadness with closed eyes and the feeling of being in a dream during the day are listed. Closing himself off from outside belongs to the picture in which reality and body loosen.
Restlessness, despair and concentration
Opposite the quiet withdrawal stands a restlessness that is not ameliorated by motion: "Restlessness – move constantly, must – amel. not". It also comes from the chest and from the flushes of heat. Despair is brought on by noises in the ear ("Despair – noises in ear, from") and is ameliorated by eating; noises in the ear likewise disturb concentration. Answering is difficult during emotions, thinking can be borne only in front of the television, and in sleep dreams exhaust the mind.
Alternation of zest and effort
The mood alternates: cheerfulness alternates with aversion to work and with laziness. A small rubric names a remarkable freedom to do what has to be done. Beside these stand aversion to shaving, violent sexual desire in women during ovulation, and doubt about the well-being of souls.
Summary
In the Repertory, Kola is a remedy of opposites: strength and dissolution, withdrawal and restlessness, elation and despair. The person experiences himself as irresistible and at the same time loses the cohesion of his body, and the world of noises, dreams and thoughts does not let him come to rest.
