Lac lupinum (Lac‑lup.)
Lac lupinum (Lac‑lup.) appears in 176 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 47 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 15 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions, Reproaching, Thoughts, Serenity, Weeping and Escape. From these emerges the picture of a person who experiences herself as a victim, holds others responsible for her situation, and at the same time thrives in danger.
Victim and blame
The delusions are the largest block. The person feels like a victim, looked down upon, and not belonging to her own family; it is as if everything depended on her. Women are murdered by men, and the person is aware of the suffering of women through the centuries. Reproaching supplements this: others in the family are blamed, responsibility is to be shifted onto them, and toward the husband there is criticism or silence. Quarreling with the spouse is also recorded.
Danger, escape and serenity
Two single-remedy rubrics stand at odds with each other: on the one hand the desire for danger and the delusion of enjoying dangers and feeling better when taking risks; on the other hand the search for hiding places to flee to and preoccupation with an escape strategy. To these is added serenity after accidents: the person remains calm even when her car was broken into, the computer fell from the table, or the daughter cut herself on a glass.
Thoughts and feeling
The thoughts are confused, difficult to follow, faulty in perception, but also logical; the intellect is clearer when reading and at night. At the same time there are lost feelings and heightened body awareness at the surface of the skin. Weeping arises from church music, from insults, and as whimpering when everything hurts.
Warmth and benevolence
Alongside these stand signs of affection: gratitude for fatherly love, openness toward friends, compassion for the daughter, benevolence toward those less favored by fortune, excessive joy when distributing Christmas presents.
Summary
Lac‑lup. combines blaming, feeling like a victim and escape with surprising calm in accidents, delight in danger and warm-hearted devotion. It is a contradictory picture, clearly drawn by the numerous single-remedy rubrics.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
