Lithium carbonicum (Lith-c.)

Lithium carbonicum (Lith-c.) appears in 90 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, four are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and two are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. Fear and Phobia is by far the largest group with eighteen main rubrics, followed by Anxiety with six and by Memory and Weeping with four each.

Fear and anxiety

Fear and Phobia as well as Anxiety form the core. One single-remedy rubric describes anxiety during the night with a feeling of helplessness. Another records a feeling of helplessness for the night. The anxiety is thus closely bound to the night.

Hopelessness and forsakenness

Two small rubrics record hopelessness and despair, each for the whole night. The feeling of being forsaken is a single-remedy rubric linked with sighing. These rubrics form the emotional counterpart to the anxiety.

Memory, weeping and children

Memory, Weeping and the rubrics for Children are represented with three to four main rubrics. Bipolar disorder appears in a single-remedy rubric with arthritis, without a further pattern arising from it.

Summary

In the rubrics Lithium carbonicum is characterized mainly by fear, helplessness and nocturnal despair. The accumulation of fear rubrics is the most striking feature, while the single-remedy rubrics supplement the picture with the experience of the night.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
