Mephites putorius (Meph.)
Mephites putorius (Meph.) appears in 79 rubrics in the repertory. Of these, 5 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 4 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Stupefaction, Loquacity, Gestures and Somnambulism; Irritability, Restlessness and Anger belong with them.
Stupefied and talkative
The state resembles that of a drunkard. Stupefaction goes along with garrulity and loquacity, and a small rubric says it outright: Loquacity, "drunk, as if". The dullness has its seat in the head, which feels enlarged, accompanied by nausea and ill humor. A single-remedy rubric records this, and another mentions excitement with heat of the head.
Anger in sleep
Anger occurs with somnambulism. Two single-remedy rubrics describe angry gestures during somnambulism and somnambulism with angry gestures: the sleeper acts out of an annoyance that is not carried out in waking. The irritability can be kindled by imagined events, again a single-remedy rubric.
Unfitness and fright
A small rubric records the delusion of being unfit for work, and other rubrics show startability and restlessness.
Summary
Meph. describes a stupefied, talkative, easily frightened person whose anger discharges in sleep and over imagined things. From the small number of its own rubrics only this basic pattern can be read.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
