Oleander (Olnd.)

Oleander (Olnd.) appears in the repertory in 236 rubrics. Of these, 7 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy appears, and 10 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis is on Delusions, Ailments from certain causes, Thoughts, Speech, Memory, and Concentration. A mind appears that tires easily and begins to swim at even slight thinking.

The overtaxed intellect

The intellect becomes weak as soon as it exerts itself. Confusion occurs when reading, when the person tries to comprehend something: "Confusion of mind – reading, when – comprehend, when trying to". The same pattern shows with thinking, which aggravates the confusion, and with meditation, after which complaints arise. Rush of thoughts occurs at work and when reading, and exaggerated, high-flown fancies come at work.

Weakness and reeling

Weakness is the counterweight. The delusion of reeling is listed from weakness, and weeping from weakness occurs without recognizable cause. Lack of self-confidence belongs to the sadness. As the only single-remedy rubric in this field, alcohol ameliorates, "Alcoholic drinks – amel."

Dreams and fear

Only this remedy knows dreaming of a poetic future; the small rubric concerns dreaming of the future in general. The fear of death has an unusual face: it appears through pain in the teeth, "Fear, phobia – death, of – toothache, during".

Summary

Dreams of the future and high-flown ideas stand beside weakness, absentmindedness, and an intellect that is not equal to its own exertion. The picture rests on few but uniformly directed rubrics.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
