Piper nigrum (Pip‑n.)

Piper nigrum (Pip‑n.) appears in 19 rubrics in the Repertory. There are no single-remedy rubrics, in which only this remedy appears, and no small rubrics with at most two other remedies; the data are thin. The rubrics are distributed over Fear, Anxiety, Starting, Gestures and Concentration.

The fear is directed at pain and suffering and is aroused by noises; likewise noises make the person start. The anxiety arises from pain in the anus. The hands pick at the nose until it bleeds. Concentration is difficult, to the point of impossibility, speech is hard, and thinking circles around one's own complaints. Work and occupation ameliorate. Also recorded is the feeling of being forsaken.

Summary

What little the rubrics carry shows a condition sensitive to noise and shy of pain, in which distraction by work gives relief and brooding over the complaints makes things worse.

All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
