Pyrogenium (Pyrog.)
Pyrogenium (Pyrog.) appears in 155 rubrics in the repertory. Of these, 32 are single rubrics in which only this remedy appears, and 7 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Delusions, Restlessness, Speech and Talking, plus Delirium and mental complaints during fever. Together they yield the picture of a feverish, restless person whose body sensation multiplies and splinters.
The multiplied body
The core lies in the delusions about the body, almost all of which are single rubrics. The person believes he has many arms and many legs, is in a throng of arms and legs or is surrounded by them. The body would cover the whole bed; the head lies on the pillow, but the rest of the body cannot be found. The toenails would fly away, and the person would break if he lay long in one position.
Double and foreign identity
From the multiplication comes a splitting of the person. Listed are being double, with the fever taking a different course in the two, and being another person when lying on the other side. One rubric names a misjudgment of one's own identity when turning the body. To this belong the rubrics "Delusions – multiple" and the group of multiple personality disorders.
Speech and restlessness
Speech is accelerated: hasty talking in fever, incessant talking without end, thinking faster than ever, plus whispering in sleep and to himself. Restlessness is followed by exhaustion, occurs with sepsis, diarrhea and pneumonia, and the rubric on Coma is likewise tied to sepsis. Fear concerns cold air, aversion his own body odor.
Summary
Pyrog. describes a feverish, septic state in which the body image disintegrates and multiplies and the person talks fast and cannot keep still. The single rubrics condense the picture into a few very vivid delusions.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
