Sanicula aqua (Sanic.)
Sanicula aqua (Sanic.) appears in 321 rubrics in the repertory. Ten of them are single-remedy rubrics, listing only this remedy, and 24 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphases lie in children with 105 rubrics, as well as fear, delusions, irritability, restlessness, and screaming. From these emerges the picture of a child who fears being touched and lifted, clings when moved downward, and wakes angry and irritable.
Touch and Closeness
The resistance to closeness emerges clearly. Two single-remedy rubrics record that the person cannot bear anyone lying next to her or touching her. Another single-remedy rubric names aversion to the person lying next to her in bed. A small rubric records fear of being carried or lifted up. At the same time, on waking the child pushes parents or nurse away.
Clinging and Falling
Opposed to the avoidance is clinging. Small rubrics record clinging on downward motion, in children, and when coughing. Anxiety when swinging is also recorded. The child fears falling and seeks support.
Waking Angry
Waking is delicate. Small rubrics name: "Children, general – Kicking, striking – angry, kicks and scolds on waking, the child is", and the related rubric on irritability when kicking. A single-remedy rubric records cursing during intermittent fever, another irritability alternating with cheerfulness. Small rubrics add laughing alternating with ill humor and persistent screaming in the evening.
Darkness and Persecution
The delusions are predominantly uncanny: someone is sneaking up from behind, when walking and in the dark, everything gives way, one is hated, one is seasick after riding in the dark. A small rubric concerns aversion to darkness.
Physical
Recorded are kneading the hands like bread and weeping before urinating in children. Children undress in the coldest weather. A tendency to frown by contracting the skin of the forehead is also included.
Summary
Sanic. appears as the picture of a child who refuses touch and being lifted, clings on downward motion, wakes defiant and angry, and believes itself pursued in the dark. With 34 specific rubrics, the data are solid.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
