Terebinthiniae oleum (Ter.)
Terebinthiniae oleum (Ter.) appears in 121 rubrics in the Repertorium. Of these, 9 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 3 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The main emphases are Coma, Stupor, and Delusions, plus Delirium, Anxiety, and Unconsciousness. The picture is that of a person whose consciousness is clouded by physical processes of urinary excretion.
Coma and stupor
Two single-remedy rubrics describe coma: "Coma – eyes – opens the eyes only when swallowing" and coma with swelling of one eye. Stupor occurs restless and in uremia. The disturbance of consciousness stands in close proximity to urinary function.
Urination and the mind
Several rubrics tie the state of the mind to urination: mental confusion ameliorates during urination, dullness with profuse discharge of urine, and a single-remedy rubric lists urinating as a mental state. Consciousness clears when the body empties itself.
Anxiety, fear, and delusions
Anxiety occurs in bed, on going to bed. Hysterical paralysis (no part of the body can be moved), the delusion of falling forward when walking, and the delusion of having to sleep complete the picture. One small rubric names the attempt to hang oneself.
Summary
In the Repertorium, Terebinthiniae oleum shows stupor and coma connected with urinary excretion, plus an anxious restlessness on going to sleep. The body acts as the source of the mental state.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
