Repertory › Remedies in the repertory
Vipera berus (Vip.)
Vipera berus (Vip.) appears in 125 rubrics in the Repertory. Of these, 4 are single-remedy rubrics in which only this remedy is listed, and 2 are small rubrics with at most two other remedies. The emphasis lies on Speech, Delirium, Delusions, Children, Restlessness and Anxiety. The picture is that of a person between restlessness and fainting who feels persecuted and refuses contact.
Restlessness and fainting
Two states alternate. Restlessness alternates with fainting ("Restlessness – alternating with – fainting"), so does anxiety, and stupor alternates with vomiting ("Stupor – alternating with – vomiting"). The restlessness breaks off where the body gives way, and the fainting yields again to restlessness.
Persecution and defense
The delusion of being pursued by the devil is a single-remedy rubric ("Delusions – pursued, he/she is – devil, by"), and with eight rubrics Delirium is important. This corresponds to a closed nature: "Sociable, friendly – not". Hatred is listed in three rubrics, and so is Sadness.
Speech and desire
With twelve rubrics Speech is the largest main rubric, with three more on Talking. The most unusual single-remedy rubric concerns the desire for drugs by injection ("Drugs – desire for – injecting, by"). Six rubrics concern Children.
Summary
In the Repertory, Vipera berus shows a tormented, changeable state: where the restlessness ceases, fainting follows, and the mind remains persecuted, irritable and repellent. The number of specific rubrics is small, so the picture can only be read in outline.
All rubrics of this remedy, the materia medica and the case work are in Rathmer’s Repertory.
